2008 Walter Kaitz Foundation Annual Fundraising dinner

Thank you New York!

And next up, Denver -- October 28, 2009!

The Walter Kaitz Foundation’s most recent fundraising dinner was 25 years in the making…and well worth the wait.

With Food Network celebrity chef Ingrid Hoffmann hosting and the talented Black Violin entertaining more than 1,300 guests, The 25th Annual Walter Kaitz Foundation Annual Fundraising Dinner raised more than $1.7 million for programs promoting diversity in the cable industry.

The memorable September evening in Manhattan marked the end of our yearly tradition of hosting the Dinner in New York City. Coming next: The 2009 Walter Kaitz Foundation Annual Fundraising Dinner moves to Denver as part of Cable Connection, a week-long series of cable industry events. Mark your calendar now for Denver: October 28, 2009.

No matter where we gather, the dinner continues to be characterized by a sense of industry camaraderie and united support for an important mission. “For 25 years, the annual Walter Kaitz Foundation fundraising dinner has been a cornerstone of the cable industry,” said David Porter, Executive Director of the Walter Kaitz Foundation. “I want to thank the entire industry again for their tremendous support.”

Guests at the 2008 Dinner honored Diversity Advocate Award recipient U.S. Rep. Joe Baca (D-CA), and Diversity Champion Award recipients Bright House Networks and Scripps Networks. The dinner was co-chaired by Philip Kent, Chairman & CEO of Turner Broadcasting System and Michael Willner, Vice Chairman & CEO of Insight Communications. Presenting Rep. Baca’s award was CNN Anchor Rich Sanchez.

The funds generated from the dinner help fuel the activities of the Walter Kaitz Foundation’s diversity efforts, along with three industry-based organizations with programs and activities designed to prepare people of color and women for executive positions in the cable industry. Those groups are the Emma L. Bowen Foundation, the National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC), and Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT). These organizations focus on leadership and professional development, career coaching, skills training, mentoring, and professional internships.
